Because therapy is inherently relational, it is important to feel safe, seen, and respected within the relationship in order for healing to occur. If you’ve had a negative experience in the past—or simply didn’t “mesh” well with a past therapist—it can feel scary and exhausting to think of opening up to someone all over again without a guarantee that it will be the right relationship for you. This is why I offer the free initial consultation, and want you to use it to interview me and test me out! I am not the right therapist for everyone, and you do not need to worry about hurting my feelings by telling me that I’m not right for you. If you do decide to work with me, I welcome feedback about what is working and not working for you in our sessions, and about moments where you felt misunderstood or unseen. I try to allow each client to set the pace for the relationship, and being trauma-informed means that I will not rush you into divulging things that feel tender and vulnerable.

There is definitely a phase, especially after the initial “honeymoon phase” of treatment, where one’s suffering can feel endless and too enormous to heal. This is common, and does not mean that treatment is not working or cannot work. Usually, this feeling comes because clients are allowing emotions, sensations, and memories to arise that have been locked away for a long time (which is part of what treatment is for!), and it often emerges just before a significant transformation or insight. You are not broken, and treatment is not about “curing” or “fixing” you. You and I will know when you are ready to conclude treatment by how you feel in your body, how you are responding to triggers, how you are relating to your past, and how you are approaching your relationships, both with yourself and with others. This is an ongoing conversation that we will have throughout our time together. For coaching clients, we will determine a set number of sessions at the beginning, but can always reassess that number based on your progress.

Fees + Insurance
-
Treatment is an investment in yourself, your family (if applicable), and the life that you deserve to create for yourself. It also does take time; how much time varies greatly from client-to-client. I will always work to make this investment feel worth your while, as long as you are doing your part to show up fully, and to bring in everything you need to. If you think I would be a great fit for you but have concerns about payment, please reach out via the contact form on the website, and we can discuss your options.

I don’t currently take insurance but can provide a superbill for you to submit to your own insurance.

You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical and mental health care will cost. Under the law, health care providers need to give clients who don’t have insurance, or who are not using insurance, an estimate of the expected charges for medical services.
You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency healthcare services, including psychotherapy services. You can ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule a service. If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. You will receive a copy of your Good Faith Estimate.
For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises.
